Dear You:

There is going to be one day in your life where you wake up and you’re so totally done with it, it’s not even funny. And it’s not like you woke up and said “I’m so totally done with this,” it’s more like you wake up and the bus has gone by your house without picking you up. There’s really nothing you can do about it, it just happened while you were asleep. You wake up and you start to do something, then you realize you don’t need to do it anymore. Like when old men wake up forty years later and itch at the leg that isn’t there. Like when you roll over and reach for the person that was there a second ago and you realize that you were dreaming. Like when you buy a CD knowing that you’ve never heard these people before but my oh my they do sound familiar, don’t they? Like when you dial a number, say, to order a pizza, even though you much prefer Chinese food, and your ex-girlfriend picks up and you’re like man, uh, sorry, wrong number but you know she recognizes your voice and you sit there in the dark and wonder if she’s going to star sixty-nine you just to make sure. And you wonder if you’re going to pick up if the phone actually rings. Like when you get up and shave, pull on your pants, eat your Frosted Flakes, get ready, pack your bag, and slide into the car and just start driving. Then when you get on the beltway, you forget where it is you are going, then you try to turn around and go back, but you can’t find the right exit.

So what is there to do now, I wonder.
